Philips Norelco 5700 Electric Shaver Review

When shopping for an electric shaver, the average consumer generally looks for something that is a nice blend of form and function. That means looking for a shaver that is easy to use right out of the box, and which has a nice array of features. It also means that they want a shaver that will deliver a clean shave in as short a time as possible. Phillips Norelco is a brand who have made a name for themselves in this department, and they are looking to raise the bar a little with the 5700 with Turbo Mode. This is an electric shaver that appears to have all the bells and whistles, but does it deliver in the performance department? Let’s take a closer look.

THE DESIGN

There is no denying that this is a nice looking shaver, and like all of the other models in the Phillips Norelco 5000 range, the functions are all very well laid out. The handle portion of the shaver is ergonomically designed so that it fits snugly in the hand, but things get even better when talking about the controls of the unit.

The power button is placed just below the heads of the shaver, in perfect position for thumb control. Sitting just below the main power button is the Turbo Mode control, which is something that we will discuss a little further in the performance part of the review. All in all, this is a nicely designed shaver that is incredibly easy to use, which already gives it a little leg up on the competition.

THE PERFORMANCE

This shaver is designed to work on both wet and dry skin, which means you can get shaving right after stepping out of the shower. With your pores open, the triple shaving heads go right to work even on the coarsest of facial hair. The 5700 also works really well on dry skin and gives a nice clean shave. There is also a trimming attachment that comes with this shaver, allowing you to give your mustache, beard, or sideburns a nice little touch-up.

You get a charger with your purchase, and that delivers about 50 minutes of shaving time on a full charge, which can be achieved in about an hour. The Turbo Mode sounds pretty cool, but all it really does is deliver a 10% boost in power, which can be handy if you are in a rush when shaving.

One of the coolest parts of the Phillips Norelco 5700 electric shaver is the Smart Clean System that it comes with. You can clean, lubricate, and charge your shaver with this system, which does a much better job than simply running it under water.
